We are the environment for each other... I do not believe that mental health issues are in the individual - they are societal issues that affect some people to a degree where they cannot cope anymore and need support. Changing the environment for a human being is so much more complex than changing the environment for a plant. It's overwhelming to begin to think about. So it's easier to make the individual responsible for their own emotional well-being... I know I have had to make choices as an individual to change my environment but I could not have done this without support and guidance and role models. Unlike a plant I can take my two feet and go. I can move to a different environment but I need to know what I was looking for. I needed people around me to share with me what is possible - how my world and my life could be. I needed kindness so that I could figure out how to be kinder to myself. I needed others to have the courage to trust me so that I could learn to trust myself. I needed to feel valued for my contributions to other people's lives so that I could find belonging. We cannot expect people to change if we don't create a world worth changing for... We are each others environment. We change together... #mentalhealth #communitydevelopment #peersupport #kindness #trust #hsp #socialinjustice #recovery #nomanisanisland #highlysensitiveperson #inequality #individualism #socialresponsibility
